MULP_01_coverOur next guests are a writing/artist duo who have created a whole new world…of adventure seeking, explorers who happen to be mice! Welcome to the world of MULP: Sceptre of the Sun! And welcome to Matt Gibbs and Sara Dunkerton, the creative geniuses behind the comic.

Can you give us a brief overview of your successful MULP: Sceptre of the Sun?

MULP is an anthropomorphic comic book, a Pulp adventure set in a world of mice, by Matt Gibbs & Sara Dunkerton.

The Sceptre of the Sun follows the exploits of Jack Redpath and Vicky Jones as they attempt to unravel a mystery surrounding an ancient stone tablet unearthed during an archaeological excavation in Egypt. This tablet is the first marker on an adventure that sees them racing around the world in search of a legendary treasure. Joined by their friends Cornelius Field, Prof. Walter Harvest-Scott, and Elisabeth Harvest-Scott, together they must prevent a powerful artefact falling into unscrupulous paws.

Suitable for all ages, MULP: The Sceptre of the Sun is being published in five parts, which began with the first in 2014.

MULP_01_lettered08What has the reaction been to the book and has it’s success opened any new doors to you?

We’ve had an incredible reaction to the first issue from readers of all ages! Sara and I love working on MULP, exploring the world we’re creating, and it is fantastic getting to share that excitement with others.

As for opening new doors, a large part of the success we’ve had has been down to the brilliant support and welcoming doors of comic shops, such as Gosh!, Orbital, Page 45, and Travelling Man.

And now, MULP has also been taken on by a publisher… Something we’re hoping to announce properly in the coming weeks.

MULP_01_lettered03What are you working on as a follow up?

Well, we still have four issues of the current Sceptre of the Sun storyline to go, but both of us are already sold on the idea of doing more. A story based around Japanese history – Samurai mice! – and a one-shot Great War adventure are definitely on the table.

What can we expect from you at NCC?

We’re hoping to have the second issue of MULP: The Sceptre of the Sun with us, plus Sara will have some of her MULP inspired prints and will also be sketching at our table.

We’re really looking forward to it; thank you for inviting us!

Make sure you pick up your copies of MULP at this year’s NCC, it’s AWESOME!!
